During the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies adopted home office as a safer isolation measure, but this possibility is not always applicable to some segments, such as industries, especially on the production line. Therefore, this segment had to adapt to the challenges of isolation during the in-person workday.
In this content, we address the main challenges faced by industries in this scenario and which measures were essential to ensure the safety of all employees regarding space management.
The need of industries
To face the challenge of maintaining safety measures, industries had to adapt in different ways: improving environmental hygiene by providing accessories and essential items to prevent transmission, maintaining distance between people, reducing all types of contact with objects, among other measures.
Many of these measures remained in place with the return of employees who had been working remotely, such as in administrative areas, ensuring greater safety after the end of isolation. This scenario results from acquired habits and society’s greater concern with safety and hygiene, promoting more care regarding the transmission of diseases.
Another important point in this process is that some industrial departments were also able to adopt the hybrid work model, which has been growing in the market as a whole and has become the favorite model for most employees.
The challenges and the solution
For the industrial segment to adapt to the challenges of the pandemic and also after the return, Skedway, a scheduling platform that also enables access control to environments, was essential in this process.
For the industrial scenario, we observed the use of the tool in essential activities, both during the isolation period and in the return:
Automated access to environments
Skedway can be used to control access to different environments, such as receptions, meeting rooms, floors, among others. During the pandemic, this feature facilitated the entry and exit of people, since no physical contact with the access reader was required — only the employee’s own cell phone.
In the case of industries, this control also applies very well to restricted areas, such as rooms with chemical products or machinery areas, for example. This ensures the safety of the location, with credentials defined by the company, making it an important factor for the segment.
Parking
Another feature of Skedway is parking space booking, which allows for better use of space and predictability, avoiding situations where employees or visitors need to search for spaces upon arrival.
During the pandemic, this feature prevented a chain of contact between people, such as security guards and receptionists, due to automated access.
In addition, this feature provides greater safety in the entry of people into the company and also improves the overall experience during the workday, which has been extremely useful even after the return.
Cafeteria
The cafeteria is a space that many industries have, and it can generate conflicts among employees due to the number of seats, as it usually cannot accommodate everyone at the same time. With the tool, the cafeteria started to have scheduled times and reserved seats, giving employees the freedom to choose a better time to go to the cafeteria according to availability and their work schedule, and even choose who they would like to sit near.
This feature was also essential during the isolation period, since distancing requirements were crucial, and the tool allowed visualization and booking while ensuring the minimum safe distance.
Disease spread
With the more cautious scenario due to the pandemic, an essential feature to ensure everyone’s safety in the workplace is the proximity report: a report that maps the people who have been near each other in bookings. Thus, if an employee has Covid-19 or other contagious illnesses, it is possible to notify those who were in close contact so that proper measures can be taken, such as treatment and isolation, avoiding further spread. This feature was extremely important during isolation and continues to be highly relevant after the return, ensuring employee health.
